Benefits of Water Resistant Material
Water resistant means that the material will inhibit the transit of moisture to a given degree under testing using a known area of medium and barometric pressure. Water resistant (sometimes referred to as ‘breathable’) covers allow the transit of moisture after a certain amount of rainfall, and will more readily allow evaporation of both rainfall and naturally occurring condensation.

How to choose the right size motorhome cover

Sizing is the most important decision when buying a motorhome cover. Measure the full length of the vehicle from the front of the cab to the rear bumper, and check this against the manufacturer's size guide rather than the model's marketed length, as the two can differ. Cab profile matters too — motorhomes with a cab hump, roof-mounted air conditioning units, ladders, satellite domes or bike racks often need the next size up, or a cover with cut-outs, to avoid the fabric bridging awkwardly or straining around these features. As with any cover, if you're between sizes, it's safer to size up than down.

Fitting your motorhome cover correctly

Always fit a cover to a clean, dry vehicle — dirt, grit and moisture trapped underneath are the most common causes of surface marks and mildew forming against the bodywork. Work methodically from the cab back to the rear, keeping the fabric taut and centred, and make full use of any straps, buckles or elasticated hems built into the cover to stop it shifting or lifting in wind. Take extra care around wing mirrors, awning rails and door handles — use any dedicated access zips or cut-outs where fitted, and pad sharp edges if the cover doesn't have them, to avoid repeated rubbing wearing through the fabric in one spot.

Looking after your cover between uses

Even a well-fitted breathable cover benefits from an occasional check during long periods of storage. Look in every few weeks to confirm the cover hasn't shifted, snagged on a roof fitting, or trapped leaves or debris against the fabric. When it needs cleaning, use only cold water with a soft brush or sponge — avoid pressure washers, strong detergents and machine washing, all of which can damage the breathable and water-resistant coating. Allow the cover to dry completely before folding it away, and store it somewhere dry and out of direct sunlight to help it last across multiple seasons.

When a cover makes the biggest difference

A breathable cover does the most good when a motorhome is parked up for extended periods — protecting paintwork, seals, trims and roof fittings from UV fading, tree sap, bird droppings, and the damp conditions that lead to mould and algae growth. In very high winds, it's worth removing the cover unless it's specifically rated for storm conditions, and fitting or removing it in dry weather makes the job considerably easier than handling a wet, heavy sheet. Whatever the make or age of the motorhome, a properly sized, well-fitted, breathable cover remains one of the most cost-effective ways to protect it against bodywork damage and damp-related repairs over time.
